CharityWeb is a site dedicated solely to non-profit organizations. We provide
Web-based fundraising tools and building blocks for making a site interactive. For
donors, we make it easy for them to find out about the NPOs and how their money will be
used. Our goal is to make donating to an NPO on the Web as easy as going to the mall for a
new pair of shoes.
We log domain names, IP addresses, and your IP addresses` path through our site.
On various pages, we collect names, addresses, phone numbers, fax numbers, email
addresses, credit card numbers, online currency account numbers, and other personal
information and preferences. Of these, we collect the minimum necessary to complete the
transaction plus whatever a visitor chooses to provide. Furthermore, the visitor will know
precisely what is optional (outlined in yellow), what is required (outlined in orange),
and what is being collected. Each NPO defines what information is required and
what is optional; some ask for more information for such reasons as state law or their
desire to know where the money is coming from.
With the exception of domain names and IP addresses, we collect only what you
consciously provide and tell you what we are going to do with it; we have no cookies
secretly collecting information nor do we look at the cookie file on your computer.
The CharityWeb site contains links to other sites which have their own privacy
policies that may differ from CharityWeb's.
Our general philosophy is that the visitors will be able to see how we use
personal information; we do not use such information for hidden purposes.
Domain names, IP addresses, and the paths are logged and analyzed so that we can
improve our Web pages and make them more useful for our visitors. We do not track the IP
addresses back to names or other personally identifiable information even when possible.
Contact information supplied by people who add content to the site (e.g. add a
URL entry, add a wing to the store, and register for gifts) will be maintained in our
off-line database. It will be used to contact you in case we have questions about
the content you have provided.
Information collected that is needed to complete a transaction, such as on the
donation forms, is used to complete the requested transaction and then discarded after
eight months. CharityWeb retains the information for eight months in case a credit
card company asks us to prove that a transaction actually occurred.
Required contact information (e.g., name, addresses, phone numbers) is forwarded
to the NPO. If an NPO does not require this information, a visitor can choose to send the
information on or donate anonymously.
Some of the information, after being separated from the user, is maintained for
billing the NPOs and understanding the donor clientele. The information maintained is: NPO
name, date, donor`s state, and the amount of the donation.
CharityWeb will maintain a visitor`s e-mail address on file for future contacts
only if the visitor gives us permission to do so. Any contacts will be about offerings of
CharityWeb or one of our NPO clients. We will not share any information with any
non-CharityWeb employees.
Domain names, IP addresses, and the paths may be shared with our
CharityWeb-hosted NPOs to explain why we are changing their Web pages. Contact and other
information about our users might be temporarily "shared" with third parties
that fulfill orders, verify credit cards, process orders in online currencies such as
PaymentNet, CyberCash, DigiCash, etc.
The membership, pledge, and donation information will be shared with the NPO you
specify and only that NPO. Once an NPO has the information, they will follow their own
policies on sharing it. The date, originating state, and amount of each donation
will be sent to the NPO in their monthly bill. CharityWeb will not share this information
with anyone else.
A subset of the personal information you supply for our gift registry and
challenge gift services will remain on-line so friends and associates can identify
you. The subset includes your name, an identifier chosen by you, the NPO you
designate, and the gift level.
We will never sell or rent any of the personal information we collect. If
advertising on the CharityWeb site becomes necessary to sustain our business -- it is not
currently in our plan -- we will not share personally identifiable information with those
who advertise. However, we will share information in aggregate to show the
effectiveness of our site.
CharityWeb believes strongly that your personal information is yours alone. Only
a minimum of information will be gathered to complete the requested transaction. You will
always know when information is necessary and when it is not. With CharityWeb, there is no
need to release personal information to an NPO if you all you wish to do is donate to
them.
You can choose to opt-out when you provide the information. If, at a later
point, you would like to opt-out of being solicited by this site, please contact:
